The day we haven’t really been waiting for!    It’s a goodbye to Umhlanga and off to the airport for our first flight to Cape Town.

We’ve experienced a lot of hotels and those first minutes in your new room can be a voyage of discovery. Just how many light switches do you need in one room -9 broke the record. Then there’s the key card that won’t work, (twice), and you know you didn’t de-sensitive it next to your phone!

We had some interesting company on our first flight. The AmaZulu Football Club.

This team is in the  South African Premier  League and they are based in Durban. As if that wasn’t enough we also had the company of some of the Bafana Bafana.- the South African National Mens team.

Arriving in Cape Town, just another quick heart stopping moment as the endless suitcases come around the carousel. Not only do you have to spot yours, when it eventually arrives you have to haul it off the belt and the handle is always hard to find . There’s always someone in the way too!  One thing we remember about Japan is an airport official who stood by the carousel and as the luggage came out she turned them all the right way around. So simple but so helpful.

We’re now just beginning our descent into Heathrow and it’s 4.30 am and, we understand, a little chilly.

We have had an amazing time and we’re very grateful to you for reading the blog and giving us a like – ooh, sounding like influencers! – also many thanks for the comments which we enjoyed reading.

Huge thanks to Rachael, (Designer Travel), and Nicola, (ITC Travel), for all their help in making our dream to  road trip South Africa a reality, their advice and hotel choices made the trip very safe and very special.

Our stand out moment had to be the Safari. It was all we hoped it would be and so much more.

This blog will be printed as a  book for us to be able to look at and enjoy the memories. That means there will be a grand photo dump when we get around to sorting them out. You are under no obligation to look at them!!

We’ve now landed in  London so from us it’s OAP Road Trip,  Over and Out .
