You may be pleased that the blog is a little shorter today as we have again spent most of the day in the car.  The temps have been 30° plus all day but sadly you can’t tan through a car window!

We started with petrol filling and now have that down to a fine art – grateful thanks to the chaps who filled it up and then removed a shed load of bugs off the windscreen.  A new experience today would be a toll road but when it came to it it was easy.  Things are rarely automated here and it’s so easy when a lovely smiley person is always there to help.

It was another couple of hundred miles today so the photos are scenery as we passed through mostly agricultural land and large swathes of forest.  The National Parks are stunning and attract tourists who come to go hiking.  There were many townships along the way but as we passed one it coincided with the children coming home from school. It was quite incongruous as they looked delightful all in school uniform and then watching them cross the road into a mass of dilapidated shacks crushed  together on the hill.

Near the end of our journey, which passed by Port Elizabeth, the sat nav took us onto a road that was being rebuilt.  Little did we know that this was to go on for 40 km. The dust was epic as was watching Sue navigate the steam rollers, diggers, cement mixers and a ton of ladies waving red flags along the route.  We were grateful to arrive at Elephant House our hotel for the next two nights.

It’s very hot, although it’s now evening, and dinner was al fresco. Both of us are fairly hysterical about being ravaged by mosquitos so we bathed in Jungle Formula deet. Dinner was delicious but the waiters and fellow diners gave us a wide berth. Don’t go thinking we’re exaggerating, this greeted us in our rooms!

Sheila is just escorting Sue back to her room – she’s not the worse for wear,( just one G&T tonight), she just can’t remember where her room is.  We’ll let you know tomorrow if she got back – hope so because tomorrow is elephants!!!!!
