Well we got here but Sue drove us through some of the fiercest rain and there we were thinking we’d left it all at home. Views on the way were stunning with snow covered mountains on one side of the road and desert on the other.
Both Sue and I had memories from our twenties of late night/early morning meals at Denny’s and they were rekindled when we pulled off the i-10 to refuel both ourselves and the car. The meal was an easy order – the car less so!

For anyone interested we’re driving a SUV Dodge Hornet – E Hybrid. The pumps in the garage throw us – isn’t the black one diesel and where are the green unleaded. Imagine the Old Lady confusion. When in doubt, ask. The attendant kindly explained, pay first, black hose, press the regular button. Ok, sounds easy but pay first? Pay how much? How many gallons do you need she asked? Gallons? We took a chance on 9, paid $50 and once we found the button to open the fuel filler cap (there are 2, one for the charge but not going there yet), we were away. However, after 5 gallons it stopped so we’d over estimated and money was then returned to the card. After that we stopped at a shop to refuel Janice with tea bags. Once on our way again we reached Palm Springs and had a little explore, finding the Indian Wells Tennis which was played recently.

Today we leave LA Quinta, just down the road from Coachella and it’s a dry, sunny and blue sky start to the day. Hoping it stays that way as we hit the i-10 again for Scottsdale – 267 miles so we may be pumping that gas again!!
